“A cassette tape reminds me of the 80’s and it’s music. As a kid listening to music was my way to escape from the ‘nasty’ obsticals in life, like school and parents.
20 years later I found a box with my old cassette tapes and started listened to them again. Almost every song came with a memory. My first kiss, my first love, my first hartache, my second hartache and memories of the songs that got me over it.
Music brought me to where I am today. So in a way you could say that the cassette tape was my guide in my teenage life. My mother, my father and my best friend merge in a little box.”

Last sunday (march 8th) the New Cool Collective tromboneplayer Bart Lust had a special on televisionnetwork VPRO. In the worldmusicprogramme called 'Vrije geluiden' Bart explains to announcer Hans Flupsen why he choose for such 'agressive' photography for the design of his debut CD "Don't touch the bell". I already know why because I did the photography and design.

Levi's® has invited artists from the most diverse disciplines –but all breathing the spirit of the brand- to add their personal touch to the classic back pocket, resulting in precious little works of art by artists like lingerie-designer Marlies Dekkers, TV-host and actress Sophie Hilbrand, fashion designers Daryl van Wouw and Bas Kosters, visual artist Ottograph, band members from Voicst, Direct and Moke, and ‘must see’ underground artists like Royalsteez. From January 29 the pockets will be on display at CoffeeCompany, 153 Van Woustraat, Amsterdam. From February 14 they will pop up in other CoffeeCompany shops all over the city. Last chance to see them: Levi’s® Store Kalvertoren, from February 27 until March 31.

WHAT FOR THE LOVE OF GOD IS THIS?!

Is it a new form of critique towards our superficial sugar coated society?
Is it about teaching our children the true meaning of life?
Or is it a serious prank towards famous rich kid artist Damian Hirst?

Whatever it is, it is called 'For The Love of Candy' and it's on show at Papabubble, the world-famous international candy store in Amsterdam (The Netherlands). It was made by Royalsteez, an independent young Dutch artist who continues to amaze crowds all over town. Where Damian Hirst’s skull is set with 8.601 shiny diamonds (yawn!), this particular piece of art is set with delicious sweet pieces of candy and only Royalsteez himself knows exactly how many.
'For the Love of Candy' is currently on exhibition at Papabubble, Haarlemmerdijk 70 in Amsterdam (quite near Central Station!) until December 31st. A must see for sweet tooth and art lovers alike!

BREAD & BUTTER FOR SCOTCH & SODA

Together with friends we worked out a design for the famous Bread & Butter fashion event that will take place in januari 2009 in Barcalona. This time for Scotch & Soda. JEUK presents REUK

For the second time this year JEUK has been asked to join the galleryroute Zwaanshals in Rotterdam. This time no 3 meter high naked selfportrets, drawing dicks or slaughtering spraycans but REUK (sence of smell). We had to choose between 3 expositionspaces. One of them smelled very bad. None of the participating artist wanted this room...so this was the room we wanted to have.
We decited to paint selfportrets with a 'Oh God, what a smel!l' expression. Now the room became a part of our paintings. The room gave us the smell, we gave the face!

JEUK wins AWARD!

With our '48 hours film festival' entry called 'The Making of...' we won the big 'Persistance Award'.
What seems to be the biggest faillure of the year turned out to be a winner!
Because of a dead camera with 3 hours of film stuck in it we had to change our plan so we took all the 'behind the scenes' material, stuffed it in the computer and editted it like a mo&#@^fu&^#!
And besides this award we also got 2nd place Publieks Prijs' (viewers favorite). Check us out and see why JEUK is LEUK!
